5 Signs Your Water Heater Tells that You Need to Know

When will you know that your water heater is about to shut down and give up? How many times have you experienced that one of your plumbing system stopped working in a very unexpected circumstance?

It is not easy facing and handling a broken water heater. You can’t continue doing the things you have to do because your water system has failed. Here’s a simple list of reminders for you to prevent this sudden breakup to happen.

May you be keen in observing your water and water heater if it is giving you the same signal, as what I am going to mention.

1. The Unit is Old. You know that your water heater is old depending on the number of years since you have purchased it, and the years you have been using it. If it is older than you or it is already there when you lived in your place right now, you can check its age by looking for the units serial number on the manufacturer’s sticker near its top. To know it exactly, the first two numbers usually represents the year, but stickers differ. You can also track it by searching the manufacturers webpage and if it is already 10 years old and up, you need to replace it. Replace or flush the water in your water heater at least every year to make it last longer. Keep in mind that the water is hot so you need to be careful to avoid getting burned skin. If your water heater is placed where it will cause damage and leaks, replace it right away instead of having mould risk build up or worse water damage.

2. Rusty Water. If you water heater is already dispensing rusty water, then that means “Owner, please it is time for me to rest and replace me already.” This is because, there is a very big chance that the inside components of the heater of the tank is already rusting, and it might lead to a leak. To see if your water heater is giving rusty water, fill three to five gallons of water and if rusty water comes out, that means you need a new one. This can be prevented by installing anode rods. For more safety and protection, you can use a large anode rod or two regular-sized same metal anode rods. Make sure it is on the same metal so it won’t react chemically that can cause more wear. Always remember that once it gives you rusty water, do not hesitate to replace it immediately for more safe water.

3. Insufficient Hot Water. This is one of the common signals a homeowner will get if the water heater is about to give up already. For instance, if your shower keeps on getting cold even before you are finished, this means that you need to get a new one already. This is also because of the sediments that build up over time because of the hot water.

4. Rumbling Annoying Sound. Another signal that you can get from your water heater is the noise it creates. As a water heater gets older, there are sediments that will build up at the bottom of the tank. These sediments will eventually harden as it will be heated and reheated again and again. This process will lead to wastage of energy and using a lot of the water heater’s capacity. So if you notice that banging and rumbling annoying noise from your unit, that is probably because of the build-up. This will also lead to cracks and leaks if it is not addressed immediately.

5. Leaks. When a metal heats, it will expand leading to slight fractures that causes the water to leak from your tank. This also means that it needs a new replacement, but before replacing your water heater, make sure to check if there are no other leaks from the connections and lines. Also, let a professional plumber do the job for you because they have the greater knowledge on how to install it properly.

Once you have encountered any of these mentioned signals, it means that it is now time for you to change that water heater. Once you have purchased the product that you want, do not install it yourself, call for a plumber’s help and let him install it for you.
