4 Home Remedies to Toilet Blockage

One of the most recurrent problems in a plumbing system is blocked toilet. No matter how many times you try to resolve this problem, if the solution is temporary, the problem will bug you again and again until the damage becomes worse enough that it leaves you with no other choice but to have the pipes replaced or repaired. And these two options can be ungodly expensive. Luckily, there are a couple of materials hanging around the house that can help you solve your dilemma. Here are the things you can use to fix a blocked toilet using household product that you most likely keep in cupboards and other places in your home:

  1. Vinegar + Baking Soda

If you love baking or cooking, then I am pretty confident that you have some spare baking soda tucked somewhere in you cupboard. These two materials will create a fizz when they react with each other. Pour at least half a box of baking soda into the bowl. Gentle add in the vinegar. Be very careful not to splash yourself with the mixture so that you do not cause injury to your skin.

After this, you can choose to scrub out the blockage if it resurfaces in the syphon or flush everything down the drain pipes and into the sewer lines since the blockage is more likely softened now and can slide down freely.

  1. Hot Water + Dish Soap

These two are the easiest to gather. You can certainly not go without these two in your kitchen. Grab a boiling kettle and boil an ample amount of water. Now head to the bathroom where the blocked toilet is in. Do not forget to bring the dish soap with you. Pour a generous amount of dish soap into the blocked toilet. This will just help in softening the blockage or at least put soap all over it to help it be slippery enough to slip and get detached.

Now, make sure that the water hot but not boiling as the boiling water can crack the toilet. Pour the hot water into the blockage. As you pour, slowly raise the pail or whatever container is holding the water upwards. This trick will help add force and pressure to the water as it falls to the blockage.

  1. Bleach + Powdered Soap

If the previous ones did not work, head to your laundry room and fetch the bleach and the powdered soap you use for your clothes. To create a mixture, use 3-4 cups of the bleach into a bowl and at least a cup of the detergent soap. Combine the two and pour it down the blocked toilet. Leave it be for the next 10 minutes. This is long enough for the mixture to react with the blockage. After this, flush the toilet and the problem should be gone by now.

  1. Bent Wire

Your last resort before you burn the lines of your local plumbing service provider is to fashion an old but still sturdy wire into a hook. You can cut one end of the wire and bend it at one end. Using this up cycled tool, fish out the blockage, put it in a plastic bag and throw it away. Now flush your toilet bowl. If the problem still occurs, your last option is to call for a professional plumber.
